Possible failing tranny?
So I have a 04 civic lx I recently had a junkyard engine installed (my dealership gave me a hard time about giving me a Recipte and telling me the mileage) and everything is working "ok" just yesterday I've replaced the alternator, spark plugs, oil and filter, and alternator belt and the car feels much healthier but while accelerating once I hit 60ish mph my car has a very hard time going any faster. Not sure entirely what the issue is but I'm convinced its the tranny. I found a used JDM tranny at a local junkyard that claims its under 55k they said it fits the 1.7L engine. Untimely it comes down to do I swap the tranny with another automatic or convert it to manual for future projects. Id like to strap a turbo onto my engine at some point and heard that automatic trannys can only run about 5-6 psi of boost. I'm not trying to build a track car just want to delve deeper into a hobby of mine. A thank you to all that contribute I very much Appriciate it.
What has you convinced it’s the tranny? Could just be that the engine is not running strong enough to get you past 60. Sounds like a sketchy deal on the junkyard engine. I would start by doing a compression test. Also read the spark plugs to see if all cylinders are burning properly.
What happens when you hit 60mph? What is engine rpm, throttle position? What does the car do, any weird noises?
