Parts quality for different brands
Hello all. I recently purchased a 91 CRX. I get about 17 mpg in my truck so i just wanted something good on gas. Not gonna be a hot rod of any kind. Is there anything wrong with using cheap parts for repairs? I see crazy cheap prices at RockAuto, but it seems too cheap. Does anyone have experience with rockauto stuff? Would i be better off just gettting the cheap brands at local parts stores?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

things like cheaper balljoints wear faster, replace sooner than expected. when you consider the time it takes to replace something, it ends up costing you more.

For my daily drivers and commuter vehicles, I always use Rock Auto for parts. I have had no complaints with them yet. I even use axles from them in my CRX, because idc if they break at their price.
They offer a variety of brands for most items, ranging from cheap economy to some high end and even performance parts. So take your pick.

My opinion on this is to use the best quality (name brand or OE if available) parts on those repairs that are the most difficult or could strand you or damage the engine. I do not have good things to say about Rock Auto. I got the wrong parts repeatedly (about $2800 in purchases from them). I also suspect (again my suspicion) that I received reboxed/relabled inferior parts. Some of the 'quality' parts I purchased (Beck Arnley and Raybestos and others) did not last as they should have. If you want a local supplier who does generally have good quality parts try NAPA. If you want the best price, go online first and see if you can purchase there with a discount and then pickup the parts. That is the best option for me. I don't buy from Rock Auto anymore.
