97 accord not starting
I am new to this site but have owned several older hondas since 2008. I have owned 2 1998 Honda Civics (one I still have) and a 1997 Accord (which I also still have). The 97 Accord has never given me any real problems other than EGR valve replacement and EGR passages needing cleaning. It was my daughter's car until recently, when she purchased a newer Subaru. The Accord sat for about one month without being started. When I went to start it, it would turn over but would not start. I replaced the plugs, distributor and external coil, but still will not start. The distributor was complete to include rotor, cap, ignitor, etc. It is getting spark as well as fuel. I sprayed starting fluid in the throttle body, but it still will not start. I am baffled as to the problem. Anyone know of what the problem may be? It ran fine until I let it sit, and now it will not start. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. I had a similar issue with the Civic. It turned out the numerous attempts to start it caused flooding in the cylinders and I had to pull the plugs and drain the fuel. I press the pedal to the floor and hold it to avoid flooding, but still won't start. Thanks for any help anyone can pass on.
I pulled the number one spark plug out and cranked the motor. Good strong spark. There is fuel on the tips of the plugs and when I smell the end of the plugs that moisture is obviously gasoline. I also cracked open the top of the fuel filter and turned the key to the on position and fuel sprayed out. Probably not the best way to test for fuel but the fuel pump is working anyway. I also primed the throttle body with starter fluid after replacing the spark plug and still won't start. Just cranks.
