Default 98/99 accord manual to auto conversion

Yes, you did read this correctly. I am a 2 gen 6 House. Wife’s car is auto, mine is manual. Hers has the head gasket on the wrong side of good and she loves my car ( perfect paint green). My car doesn’t get driven as it is so I will have time on the making hers mine.
the question is
what does swapping a manual to auto look like. ( computer, harness.etc)

I know there is tons of info on auto to manual but nobody is dumb like me. Maybe there is a reason for it besides the fact accord autos are a weak link?

If there is another thread explaining this ( that doesn’t say, buy another auto you dope) point me that way.

thanks in advance for not labeling me the village idiot.

Easier, cheaper, and faster to just teach her how to drive manual...

The biggest issue would be if the sub models/engines are different 98-02 2.3 had three variants alone. F23A1, F23A4, F23A5. Each are different enough to require a different PCM as well as whether it is AT or MT, that gives you six different PCMs. It's not going to be a simple changing the transmission, this is going to be more involved than an engine/trans swap as you will be trying to have two operational vehicles. Not the luxury of a parts car or sacrificial parts.

If both cars have the same engine, look for the engine code above the front engine mount, then you will need to simply swap over all the AT related parts to the MT car, and vice versa. But it will be more work intensive as you will want to preserve parts when switching MT to AT and AT to MT. Not sure if the 6th gen requires redrilling of the trans mount to change transmission, 4th and 5th gen do.
If the engines are different then you will not able to simply swap over the harness.

If the engines are different then I would suggest the easiest thing would to simply pull the blown head, have it checked/decked and reinstalled and not bother with trying to change over unless you have the time, space and tools.

And if one car is a V6 and the other is an I4, the transmissions will never interchange.

Thanks mike. Both engines are the same but you threw out enough bs that I kinda realized selling cheap and buying a working version would probably make sense.

Oh, upon further inspection, the mayo in the radiator is probably from my wife’s 4 minute trips.....

open radiator is nice and calm coolant.

now I get to try to make her burnt clear black car look decent so she doesn’t scowl when she sees my car. Fingers crossed for the repainting and 2k clear to make a hack like me to look like I’m not a mental patient.
