Default CRX Shift Light Modable?

I was swapping gauges in my CRX last night, taking out the HF and putting in the Si, I noticed something on the back of the HF that the Si didn't have... a shift light module. This is a very simple little module, does anyone know if it can be modified for different shift points? Mine says "HF" on the board, so I guess they also made one for the DX, but not the Si. Anyway, mine has never worked because I have the ZC ECU. If the module was able to be modded for a different shift point, would there be a way for me to hook it up to work? TIA

Not that I know of. I had one of those on my 93 CX and if I remember correctly it was part of the ecu program. It would come on super low so that you could get the 'optimum' gas milage. I think it basically replaced the tach, but didnt run a seperate wire to the dizzy like a tach does.

Actually my HF cluster had a tach in it, just swapped to the Si cluster so that my redline will not still start at 5000rpm, even though I'm still shifting over the Si's redline.

I really need a shift light, all the name brands are pretty expensive, so someone suggested this to me a while back, but when I went to order one today it seems that the guy isn't selling them anymore or something.

go to jegs and get an prolight or something for 50, and you can adjust manually when it comes on.

I wish it were that easy. Those lights cost over $50, then you have to buy shift "pills" for about $25-$30 more. Too much money. Were you talking about something else, if so, I'd love the link.

Oh, I think you are talking about this light:

It would do the job, but it's very ugly, and the potential for someone to tamper with the RPM setting is high.

Just like SuperHatch said, this light is controlled by the HF ECU. You may be able to wire it up to a circuit that turns on a regular shift light, but I've never tried it.

I would think you could use an RPM activated switch and wire it to operate the light. It would turn on and off at any RPM you set it too.

Well, i've got an HF also. I've been kicking around the idea of modding the HF's stock shift light. Honestly I like the HF light b/c it doesn't stand out like an Autometer. The easiest way I've found to use the HF shift light, would be to buy one of those selectable RPM switches.($50 from summitracing.com). Wire it all up correctly, and then just wire the 12v signal into the wire at pin B2. The wire at pin B2 runs to the cluster for the stock shift light.

Yeah, it would be extremely easy to hook up that little light with an RPM switch, but those are just as expensive as other stand alone shift lights.

You can acutally buy just one pill and take it apart. then wire a potentio-meter to the two pins of the pill and have a variable "pill" base on the resistance of the potentio-meter. I'm not sure of the range of resistance that you need but i have heard of this being done before
