Default Experienced Rider?

here is the story, 750il vs some sport bike

me and a friend were in a 1994 750il and we are getting on the highway from the ramp and a sport bike is behind us. we start flooring the car and we see the bike at the back end of the car, the biker is shifting and reving like crazy but he still cant pass us. eventually he passes us after a minute or two.

i have never heard of cars beating sport bikes, but in this case i dont know what happened. could it just be the guy didnt know how to ride?
even though the 750 is one powerful car.......it was still an automatic.

that is unbelievable, but many things could have happened:

A. it was an inexperienced or bad rider

B. he was in the wrong gear, had to downshift a couple times. also, could have missed a shift

C. you got the jump on him, he was not prepared, or wasn't expecting anything. at high speed it is difficult to make up for space, expecially if both vehicles are accelerating. since you went first, your speed was higher than his, and the distance between you was increasing. he had to accelerate to the speed you were traveling and then some to make up for time/distance. since you were still accelerating, this was hard for him. that is probably the case here.

D. did you see if there were any leters/numbers on the bike? if so, then what? if it was a 600 or less, that could also help explain it. and if it was older it is probably slower. if it was a 250 it might not have even passed you!

sounds like a good race though. except the 750iL isn't really a high-po car....too much weight, too much luxury.

Well, being as its October, it would depend on a few things. I rev and run the bike almost everywhere I go, just because it sounds bad ***, and I love the response from the throttle @ high RPM's. He might not have been racing you off the git... I attach myself to some peoples asses, and dont pass them. Many a time people have thought i was racing them when I wasn't.

As far as a 750 beating a 750il? Shouldn't even be close.. I mean, me and my little 600 can take a Viper GTS..

yeah, usually when i race a car if i'm not in front from the begining i dont try to pass them because those cage drivers will do anything to try to keep up. if that means cutting you off he'll do it. i usually just toy with them then slow it down to show i'm not trying to race and then i'll pull up, if he has a cute girl i'll blow a kiss to her and thats when i'll tear him a new A-hole and wave!

The other thing is how fast were you going? As the speed picks up over 100mph the car will start to have the advantage. You may not have been going this fast, however the advantage that the bike has due to it's hp/weight ratio will start to become less significant.

More likely is that it was a small sport bike. I know that people think that bikes like say a honda Interceptor are sport bikes when in actuallity my prelude is probably quicker than one, at least a interceptor 500.
