Default Maybe not for street use but...

For auto-x, I've shoehorned 225/50R14 Toyo Proxes RA-1's on my '91. My car has the stock coils and
the tires are mounted on '86-'87 alloy ("four-hole", 40mm offset, 5x14") wheels with no problems with
clearance. Hope this helps!

I just priced out wheels and tires for my 1990 Civic Si Hb and the most they recommend is 205-40 17's. You can do 18 inch wheels but the ride will be horrible if you live anywhere with bumpy roads and potholes. Best thing to do is call up a nationwide type of tire and wheel dealer and have them look it up in their computer. If it were me I would not do any bigger width then the stock tire width unless you upgrade to the larger wheels. Honda is real good about testing and re-testing to find the best handling tire for their design. All you may accomplish by putting a wider tire on is more body roll and a better chance for the tire to come off the bead at higher speed cornering. I do not recommend changing it. Hope this helps!

the factories came with 185/60 14's ... your telling me 195/60 14's would fit just right while maintaining the same overall diameter?

they'll be a little wider. i believe stock is 185/65/14, so they'll be the right height.

diameter has got nothing to do with the width
learn your geometry

uhhh.. it has nothing to do with geometry mr einstein.. what i was asking about was the aspect ratio... i thought a factor crx tire was 185/60 and he said to use a 195/60 .. but i was misinformed about the factory aspect ratio.. read the whole thread first buddy before you decide to have a and make stupid statements .. cheers

I worked at Firestone for quite a few years....say you have the stock 185 60 r14's and you went with 195 60 r14's they will be a little taller, here's how the numbers go is like this 185 or 195 whatever the first number is is the width of the tire (duh everyone knows that!!) ok then the 60 or well whatever number 60, 65, 50....ect....is the height of the rubber but heres how it works the number is the percentage of the width so on a 185 60 r14 185 is the width 60 is 60% of the width (185) of the tire and well r stands for radial..lol...and well 14 is the rim size which is another thing everyone knew. Oh and stock for the Si is 185 60r14

There wont be much of a difference between the 185 and the 195 nothing that you would probably even notice but if you did want to be safe I would say that like you were saying the 55 series would probably work....but while your at it why dont you just step up to like 15's and then go with 50 series? Or do you just want to stick with the stock rims? Oh and the difference between 185 and 195 60series would be like 7 or so millimeters so not much...

Its the 17" *bling..bling* factor thats all....at first we all wanted big rims (most of us) then we woke up....a smaller tire has less wieght and rotational mass therefore faster.....look into a15" or 16" wheel combo and have fun.
