Default RC51? yay or nay?

I'm looking into getting a 2001 RC51 soon.

Any opinions on this great looking bike? Pros, Cons, etc?

Guess I should have done a search first but thought this might be a good place to get some input.

JIC you were wondering, my background in riding bikes is 7 years and most recently on a GSXR600.

TIA

Probably the best v-twin sportsbike out there. I've heard nothing but good things about the RC51. I hear the cons are it eats up tires, it guzzles up gas, and it gets kinda hot for city commuting in traffic.

Thanks for the input....

Was on the Sportsbike website and also heard good reviews of the bike.

As for big, I'm only 5'8 and sat on one this past weekend in the showroom and found it quite comfortable (but this was at a standstill) I can see how it may get hot for driving in everyday traffic. The wife noticed it was probably the bigger gas tank shape that may be uncomfortable over the long haul....ah what does she know

damn i love that bike. i heard one recently w/ a jardine full system, sounded so bad *** i almost wet myself. as for the cons it is pretty heavy especially compared to a gix600 (close 2 100lbs more) and i hear commuting on it is a pain. i personally have never ridden an rc51 let alone a twin but i will own one of those bad boys someday. also they take really well to mods. pick up the latest issue of, well i forget now but it compares a lightly modded R1, gix 1000, and the rc51. great read. if u get one please take some pics

The main problem on that bike is the 02 model which is significantly better.

hahaha, fig's right. Consider how much traffic you get stuck in b/c you may find yourself ditching the sidemount radiators for a thick cored conventional piece. Personally I'd go for it. Lots of aftermarket info, just don't be upset when you're taken by a 1000ccI4 at the track b/c if you do you'll end up emptying out the savings. Great street powerband though.

EDIT: yay

pretty nice bike, one of my riding buddies just picked one (2002) up this last year he really likes it. for a v-twin they rev super fast, the only thin i dislike about it is the constant whine fron the gear driven cams, i find it anoying. Like eveyone has said lots of after market part avalible. very nice looking insterment cluster.
