New 97 EX Coupe
Hey there, folks!
I just picked up a 97 Civic EX Coupe from my mom and step dad. Was my step dad's car and just stopped running. So I drove from NC down to FL with a trailer behind my truck and snatched it up.
Quick history of the car is the girl that had the car before my step dad wrecked it by running into something. Not sure what, but the damage is extensive.
As for why the car just stopped running? I am still trying to figure that out. Compression test was AWFUL. Cyl 1 - 30 psi, Cyl 2, 3, and 4 were all 0 psi. So, now I have to figure out WHY this is and figure out if I want to just switch the head (kind of want to run a B16 head on there) and I have recently learned that this whole dream of a B16 head on a D16 isn't even remotely possible. Why I thought this would work....I am not sure, but my mind thought it was a thing....... or just swap everything out.
Looking forward to seeing the wealth of knowledge on here.
Thanks!

Well, I have likely found the issue with this tired old D16Y8. I already knew that it had just shut off on my step dad and they couldn't get it started again. Well, this evening, after talking to dear ole mom, I learned that the distributor wasn't turning when they tried to start it. Well, that works because now I can look into more specific causes of this thing not running. Upon a very small amount of investigation, I learned that turning the crank wasn't turning the cam. Dig a bit further and the timing belt was snapped. I suspect that the whole "I believe the water pump is bad too" comment from my mom has played a slight role in this one. Looking in there and trying to get the timing belt out.......the water pump gear/pulley was quite wobbly. So there ya have it....I need to redo the timing and water pump. This saves me massive dollars as I was about to buy a new motor. I have already grabbed a complete head from the salvage yard for like 70 bucks and it is disassembled on the work bench now with the intent of freshening it up and it will ultimately go on this block. Still need to clean up the growing organisms near the water pump though as I get the timing belt in there.
