Default Coil Over Question

Car: DC5 2003 Type R Integra. I've just replaced my 6 y/o Zeal / Hyper Coils with Yellow Speed Premium Competition Coil Overs.

The Front Coil Overs have a 33mm flat spring steel wound coil at the bottom and the Linear Spring is on top of this. And there's not enough Thread to lower much further (about 5 turns is all that's left).

My problem is I'm lowering the race car about 30mm all around. Rears are done and all good. Fronts are another question.

So I've not seen this flat wound spring thing before and I've owned multiple sets of C/O before. Anyway I did call the Dealer and the lady there said 'Ajay' is away on Leave for another week.
That's no help to me as my next Meet is this coming Sunday.

Thoughts people? Do I just dismantle and remove the flat wound section? Or, is there for a reason I don't understand?

The old Hyper Coils didn't have this section and the Linear Spring is the same length / dimension / rate as the Yellow Speed.

So you went from a high-end Japanese coilover, to a bargain coilover from Taiwan? Why not get the Zeal's rebuilt? This seems like a rather foolish choice.

The lower spring is a helper or tender spring.

Likely to prevent spring slop...and also used to maintain a certain amount of shock stroke.

Without measuring shock stroke, knowing spring rate, etc...its hard to say what you should do.

Go for it. Remove the helper/tender spring and its supporting components. Does the coilover work fine? If yes....your quest is complete.

B serious I like your style and have gone ahead and done it. All seems good. Am racing again this week end in Super Sprint here in Tasmania Australia.
Super Sprint Format is very similar to Time Attack but is from a Standing Start (my first time).

toyomatt84 Zeal's were worn out and one had blown the Cap out the bottom. They were to charge me $1000 per shock for a rebuild plus Freight to Japan as Zeal's are made in Japan.

I used YellowSpeed for the last four years in another race car and had no problems at all with them. So the choice was easy.

Second time in the Type R Integra. I raced Time Attack again after removing the 'helper spring' in the front and I lowered my PB 1.5 seconds, won my Class by over 4 seconds, finished 3rd Outright and was less than thousnth of a second outside the Class Track Record. All on 5 y/o R Spec tires and I had an ABS problem. Plus the Seat is a pain in the Kidneys! More to come from this car but ain't these Honda's awesome lol.
