Default Negative terminal replacement car no start

Hey everyone!

My 90 civic has the battery located in the trunk and I just replaced the negative terminal and now the car no starts. The lights will turn on for a second but then dim out and die. Tried jumping the car too because the battery isn’t the best and it wouldn’t start just clicks but the interior lights turn on. Could this be the main relay? How could the main relay pop even though the battery terminal was disconnected? Really stumped on this. Haven’t tested the relay yet but that’s next. Let me know. Thanks!

Sounds like a bad contact. Make sure you don't have it grounded to a painted surface.

Sounds like a bad ground, check the wire is secured to the terminal properly and make sure the chassis gound is on bare metal
