Default CV joints and axles

My car creaks when on full or near full lock going round a bend. The noise is not suspension so I suspect the CV joints are worn and I need to change both axles. On line they cost around A$90 each but to have them changed costs around A$1k. Is this such a big job or can a home mechanic change the shafts? The car is a 2010 Accord - 4 cylinder auto
