Default Speed Limit Dropping To 20MPH

A mechanic told me my Crank Shaft Sensor is going out. Can that be the reason why my car is dropping to 20 mph
and the engine light comes on cause it's also over heating.
So it over heats then the car light comes on and it stops and goes to 20 mph.
So my question is.
is it the crank shaft sensor or something else.

First it would over heat then the check engine like would come on then it would drop from whatever speed limit to 20 mph. But the car drives perfect.

If its overheating, its not driving perfect. More than likely a blown headgasket is the culprit.
