Default Damage to block at mount bracket, will this work ?

This question might be better asked to a welder, but here's the problem:

I have a D16Z6, recently, I observed the driver's side, upper mount to be loose, when I further investigated, I discovered that the bracket that attaches it to the block was missing BOTH mount bolts (not the studs to the mount, but the bolts to the block !) I of course, immediately bought 2 new ones from Honda, but when I went to replace them, I realized that the lower bolt's threading on the block was missing !!!

This is what I mean... on the sohc motor, there are only 2 bolts that hold the mount bracket to the block, one is the upper, longer bolt, the other is the lower, shorter bolt. The problem is this... the threading for both bolts is into the block, but the lower bolt's threading area seems to be partially broken off of the block. While this is not causing any leaks, or other problems, the lower bolt CANNOT be put on at all. The throw more fuel to the fire, the upper bolt's threading is wrung out and the upper bolt, consequently, cannot be 'tightened' fully (just keeps going).

At first I was like F*^K it ! and was ready to toss the block, but my broke *** thought of a possible solution, but am not sure it would work....

Would I be able to weld the bracket to the block to remedy the situation ? (I would also retap the top bolt and screw it in for more strength) I know I would need someone who can weld aluminum, but has anyone done this before ? I need to know if the welding would be able to stand up to the strain.

Also... would I be able to do this while the block is still in the car w/o needing to correct any anomalies from the heat of the welding ? (ie: would I need to pull the motor ?)

X2

Aluminum welding is TIG welding. Yes it can be done. Yes it costs a little more and the TIG welders are harder to find.

Yes you can do this and the welder will know exactly what solution to best help you in your situation for strenght and reliability.

I have a TIG welder that has done work for me in past... I just haven't had a chance to bring it to him.... So in your opinion, I should be able to do it...

But you think it could be done while STILL mounted in the car ?
