2005 Civic LX Timing Belt help
Accidentally posted this in the 2006 forum first.
So, I am driving a 2005 civic lx 4cyl can't remember the engine size right but pretty sure it is the smallest they made that year. it's at 102k miles, and single owner. Was the wife's car, now my daily commuter.
I am trying to find out a couple things about changing the timing belt and the local dealers have provided less than zero help. one dealer ship told me it didn't have a timing belt, the other told me there is no recommended maintenance that they only correct the lights that show up on the dash. I am not exxagerating, they literally said that. they third quote a price of 1300 because he said they need to replace everything the timing belt touched, and that each thing is a separate charge, which I assume to mean that I get charged for every partial hour instead of adding all the .5 hours together.
My questions are...
Should I change the belt at 110k like the manual says?
Do I need to replace everything like the guy said?
Where wouldnt find a list everything that needs or should be changed when I do the belt? I know he mentioned changing the water pump.
Follow up question. how hard is it flush the transmission fluid? I probably need to do a lot of the time up maintenance l.
Thank you in advance for any answers or advice.

Yes, you should.
I don't know what all the second tech. recommended, but the timing belt replacement usually warrants the replacement of the water pump, given that you'll have easy access to it at that point. (Changing the water pump would require a coolant replacement as well, and you may want to tack on a thermostat for ease of installation and low added cost.)
A good place to start would be the maintenance schedule from the Owner's Manual. There's a list of maintenance items in the FAQ's thread.
I wouldn't do a "flush". Its a great way to create problems, by forcing dirty fluid through small internal filters. A simple drain and fill will be sufficient, and easy enough to do in your own driveway with very little tools required.
