07 Civic EX *TRANSMISSION PROBLEM* - Am I screwed? :(
Hey everyone, so I need some advice. Let me start with how it all happened..
I was pulling out of my driveway when a car was coming up the ally way, so I put on my brakes from drive and switched to reverse. (This is in an automatic, mind you) In the process of doing so, I heard a clunk from the driver side under the hood and was left with a grinding noise and no drive in any gears, including reverse. I attempted to put it in park, and the grinding noise continued along with a clicking noise and a flashing red light next to the "P" (Park) in the dash. The digital speedometer was reading around 25mph while in any gear, until it was put into park and the mph went down with the clicking and grinding noise until I turned the vehicle off. Upon restarting the vehicle, I got out and looked underneath the driver's side wheel well and linkage to see what looked like a free-spinning linkage between it and the transmission. Not only was it spinning, but moving slightly up and down with the grinding noise.
Now, I know it's not the CV axel, as I've replaced both and know it's not that part. So, my question would reroot back to the title of this thread.. am I screwed? Do I need a new transmission or drivetrain? I am not familiar with this aspect of automotive mechanics myself, but I wanted to give the forum a try and see what anyone had to say about this. I would really like to fix this myself and avoid costly repairs at he shop, or even having to get a new vehicle. Please help! Any and all advice is appreciated! THANK YOU!
