I just installed a new timing belt on my ls/vtec and tightened the tensionor down to specs and the top part my the cam gears has a little slack.
Is it suppose to have some slack?
What can i do to tighten it if nots suppose to have slack?
Thanks in advance

Well I don't know exactly how to tighten it, but I do know that it needs to be tighter than that. Was there a spring that you took out when taking if off? If that little spring was missing then I might be causing the looseness. But then again, I'm not sure if it needed a spring, haven't done a tming belt on an LS yet. Sorry couldnt help more.
Top shouldnt have that much slack. Timing belts are a bit tricky usually. I have done like 6 or 7 with friends and maybe once or 2 times it goes on perfect and tensioner just pulls everything perfectly tight. Just did two this weekend, did them both the same ghetto way, and both work just great.
Whats the ghetto way you ask? Sure I'll tell you. The tensioner will tighten the right side of the belt(water pump side), so when putting the belt on....put the left side of the belt on first and make sure that side is tight and then slip the other side of the belt on. When you tighten the tensioner, the water pump side should get pretty tight. Ghetto tip: Have a friend push up on the tensioner and then tighten it. This will help make sure the belt is tight. The top usually becomes tight when the belt is installed right. If you need to, turn the crank where its a little off so when you put the belt on, you can turn the crank to tighten the left side of the belt. It might be hard for you to get what I am trying to describe, so just post up if you have any questions. Good luck bro....
