antenna
i was thinking of replacing the antenna in my 95 civic ex with one from a 00 civic lx. not sure if they re swapable. i got a cd player that has am/fm but when i plug in the antenna im still not getting fm radio. any help or advice would be great
All Civic antennas should be the same. A brand new one is only about $30 from a dealer.
When you remove the antenna, tie a string on the end of the cable so the string gets left in the path between under the dash and the hole in the roof. Then you can use the string to pull down the cable of a new antenna. It is very difficult to fish a wire through this path from scratch.
You can test the radio with an extra antenna that is not mounted on the car. FM reception should be OK but AM may not do much.

Yes it is one piece. Unplug the cable from the radio and pull the plug end out from under the dash to have it free at the side of the car. Then tie your string on right before the plug. Remove the two screws from the roof and pull the whole thing out through the roof, feeding the cable or string up from the bottom.
Word of warning, even with cord (don't use light string but decent strength twine/cord) it will be difficult to get the cord down to the foot well. The end loves to catch on things on the way down.
Even with this method it must have taken at least 15 minutes of trial and error before the end circumvented each hang up on the way down.
I also taped up the end where I tied the cord to help prevent it from being severed off or slipping off and to make a streamlined point of the end. Not sure if it helped but every little trick might be needed to get it down the channel.

You can always go to the salvage yard and take a look at the 6th gen antenna. The basic deal breaking difference will be the body plate and rubber seal and the screw hole positions.
Other than that, the design will be the same with the same plug type etc.
The other thing, the ebay "alleged high quality" 5th gen civic antennas are garbage. The one I bought on the cheap began to rust within a year. The OEM one still was corrosion free after 20 years, just the plug was broken so I didn't have much choice but to replace it.

good stuff. i'll keep that in mind. im not even sure if its the antenna or the 10yr old jvc cd player im putting in. guess i'll try to get someone with a volt meter and test it before i put anymore effort in getting the one out of the 2000
yea my mom blew the head gasket and the engine went with it. so im trying to get what i can. so far i was told by auto zone i can use the fuel filter and a/c compressor. if you know of anything else let me know. it'll be going to the scrap yard soon

You can do suspension parts but you usually need to do it all for precise fitment or use spacers for some parts etc.
There typically is a lot of changes between the generations and your car is a 5th gen while the blown head gasket is a 6th gen.
If you can fabricate then you can do more but even then it's a slow painful process.

There are different antennas. Even within the 92-95 Civics there are two different types. The cars that came with Stereos standard have a two piece antenna with an extension (39150-SR3-G01 + 39156-SR3-C02). It's now discontinued. The cars that didn't come with a standard Stereo (ie: CX and VX) have an optional 1 piece antenna that is still available for only $12 at online dealers like OEMAcuraParts.com. I just bought one from there last month.

BTW: The 00 Civic LX Sedan doesn't have a telescoping antenna like an EG. It uses a painted antenna in the rear window glass.

Forget the string, it took me literally 10 seconds to do it this way. Cut the wire as close to the top of the antenna as possible. get electrical tape and tape the plug end of the new antenna to the end you just cut. Pull the old cable through and the wire comes out with it. (word of advise, when you tape the wires together, make sure your tape is very tight and wrapped decent, or else it will just pull off) Like I said, took me longer to tape the wires, then to pull the new one through.
