Default a1 vs gsr trans

I have an a1(cable) in my car right now its a crx with a gsr swap, i got an extra ys1 with the car i opened it up and its the ls version as far as i can tell... The a1 in my car now is grinding into 2 at high rmps and 3rd all the time basically. Im wondering if i should rebuild the a1 or the gsr? is the gearing on the a1 shorter? neither are lsd.

From everything I’ve been told the ys1 is a stronger trans, and also has shorter gears.

You will need a different clutch disc though, because I believe the ys1 is a big spline and the a1 is a small spline shaft. I know this because I have an a1 in my crx also.

right, but i guess the ys1 came with ls gear set and the short (gsr) gear set and i think i have the ls version of the ys1. there for i was wondering if the a1 is shorter? and yes there bigger spline too thats why im not just doing the switch over with out asking cause if i buy a new clutch and do all that work for my car to be slower ill be pissy lol..

I see. And I believe with the YS1 there is no way to tell which gear ratios you have, without literally counting the teeth on the gears.

See here...

So if that is your concern, either get a different transmission that you know has the gear set you want, or just stick with the A1.

its cracked open i counted an ls 5th gear but that doesnt mean someone didnt swap it out already. need to check others. but isnt the a1 a ls trans?

what can i expect to replace on my a1 besides syncros the 3rd gear is a nasty grind.. does it actually damage the teeth on the gear or the selector ring?
