2000 Civic weird idling
Hey all,
I drive a 2000 Civic (automatic).
When it's in park, the engine falls down to 800 or so RPM, then revs itself back up to about 2000 RPM, and just continues doing this over and over. When it's in Drive and not moving (at a stoplight or something), it rests at about 1500 RPM, which is higher than normal. And if it's moving and the RPMs drop to around 800 or so (e.g., if I'm going down a hill and not pressing the gas pedal), it revs itself back up to 2000 RPM.
Extra info: I just took a road trip for Thanksgiving (around 1500 miles across 4 days or so). I live in Texas, and my road trip was to Kansas, where it was a lot colder than it gets down here. This idling thing started happening last night, 2 days after the trip ended, and I drove it a couple of times the day before (the day after the trip ended) and everything was fine. Check engine light just came on this morning.

Any time CEL comes on, get the code.
A big cause of uneven idling is not having the cooling system completely full. Park on level ground and wait until the engine is completely cold. Take the radiator cap off, the radiator should be full to the top. Do not just check in the white plastic tank.
