OK so this is my first time owning an EG, a 1994 CX to be exact. When I'm driving the car the whole thing feels like a cart, or something without suspension. I'd lost perspective on what a compliant suspension is supposed to feel like until I took a ride in my dad's 89 Supra Turbo and then had him drive the Civic. Hitting a bump even at low speeds 35, while cornering can cause the whole rear end to 'jump'. I popped my head underneath and I see what look like stock Honda suspension, simple black stuff with grease paint markings. No obvious cut springs or coil overs. The bushings on the rear arms are worn, but by no means is it resting on the bump stops. If I shake the car vertically it stops moving almost instantly, so I'm pretty sure the struts are good. I'm curious if it has had some sort of really stiff springs installed? Oh and I'm riding on 195 60 15's, so there's generous sidewall.

I guess I'm asking, how should the car ride from the factory, vs how it is now? And if it's supposed to be this way, how do I 'soften' it up?

 

Remove wheel. Take picture. Let see what you have.

You may have a strut binding. Do all four corners rebound evenly when you jounce the suspension?

Sorry for the radio silence guys. It's my daily so I work on it when I can.

I just did the rear drums today, they were the originals from the 90's! Had factory paint marks and all that. I could be wrong, but they looked ancient. One pad was to bare metal. So now I have brakes that actually work!

Anyway, I took the opportunity to photograph and inspect the rear suspension. I can move the rear lower arm up and down about 1/2 inch fairly easily, strut feel is non-existent.

These should show what's going on underneath the car. It all looks factory original to me. I can get parts numbers I think, if that helps.

you could still have bad struts/shocks and only be riding on the springs
