Default 2002 Accord LX - new purchase

My dad just bought a 2002 Accord LX automatic with that ULEV motor from a co-worker. It was my co-worker’s dad’s car, owned since new, but he is at the age he can no longer drive it. It just turned 42k miles last weekend. Since i will be the one doing all of the maintenance / repairs on this, i wondering if there is anything in particular to be aware of with these cars or anything I should be on the look out for?

it is super clean inside and out, garage kept and never seen winter, and had an aftermarket undercoating job on it, so he is looking at keeping this car for quite some time.

I would say, keep the transmission fluid changed. Often.

what interval would you recommend? I doubt it has been changed yet, but it did shift great when i drove it.
Are these transmissions known to have any issues?

They are known to have issues. If it were me, I would change the fluid every 25,000. Others opinions may vary. And add an external filter.

if you are not having issues shifting i would say do a fluid change, but if you have any issues whatsoever, i would probably just leave it be because there could be particles in the fluid helping it to shift better

removing the fluid might cause issues
