Default Steering wheel volume [and volume control **** on the radio] problems

2006 Honda Civic Hybrid. Totally stock. Approximately 77,000 miles.

Problems that started about 7 months ago:
1] Sometimes, but not always, when I click the up or down volume button on the steering wheel, the radio station gets changed, but the volume doesn't change.
2] Also sometimes, but not always, when I try to lower or raise the volume by turning the **** on the radio, the volume will go in the opposite direction from what it should [for example, if I use the **** to turn the volume up, it goes down, or vise versa.]
3] And sometimes when I turn the **** in either direction, the volume doesn't change at all.

I am planning on taking the car to a Honda dealer to see if they can fix this, but I thought it would be useful to hear from others about what you think might be causing this.
Thanks.
