Default So I bought a civic with a D16y8 swap...

So I have a 96 civic coupe with a D16y8 swap but I don’t know exactly who did it and the kid I bought it from was an idiot so it’s my new project. One new worry iv has is that the transmission wasn’t swapped or was the wrong swap because this thing has **** acceleration(compared to the last D16y8 I owned) and is just ripped on by stock civics barely even trying to race me lol first gear is basically useless it’s so short and I don’t see or feel any of the cars power Except between 45-75. There’s also no cats on it and a cold air intake though I had to replace that cause the one on it was falling to pieces

so how do I identify the transmission and which one do I want for this motor(I do plan on gettin a turbo eventually)? Any help is appreciated

Is it manual or automatic? What type of car was it originally? DX, LX, HX, etc? What ECU is installed? Which intake? To do a proper conversion to EX you need an EX ECU and EX intake manifold with 2-wire IACV and horizontal flow through the throttle body. Is the VTEC system hooked up? Is the cam and spark timing correct?

I can’t answer all those yet but I can answer some.
I just looked it up just trying to find what it was and found it’s a Dx , originally had the d16y7. Isn’t there a build with the lower end of the y7 and the top of the y8? And if so how do I check to see if he did that and not an actual full motor swap?

also, how would a y8 run on a y7 trans?
And it is a 5 speed manual
