So I been driving around all day. When I finally got home basically a bunch of coolant just came leaking out. I haven't looked under the hood just yet because there was steam coming out from under the hood. I believe that I had a small coolant leak just because sometimes the car would run hot and I would notice that the resevior for coolant would be super empty so I'd refill with coolant. So I'm guessing the leak just finally became a huge leak. I'm sorry I sound stupid and probably don't know what I'm saying...I'm not car savvy at all and I just want some advice...is this going to be a major fix?
Gotta open the hood and see where the leak/steam is coming from first.
With the car cold, refill the reservoir tank to full. Open the radiator cap and verify it is full as well.
Look for any drips or leaks, look under the car if you hear water dripping and try and look above where the leak may be coming from.
If there is no leakage, start the engine and monitor the temp gauge while watching for a leak. If the temp gauge goes above its normal range shut off the engine. Turn the ignition to ON do not start the car, and turn your A/C on. This will turn the radiator fans to help cool the engine.
No idea what year/model/engine you have.
2.2 and 2.3 cars will need to be bled properly of air. If the engine is ran with a leak it can cause it to overheat and warp the cylinder head which will blow the head gasket. Even if the temp gauge does not read hot
Thanks so much for your response. So I looked under the hood..it was hard for me to see where the leak was coming from but when I look under the car and the leak is coming from there...its some area right near my passenger side wheel...the leak is slow when the car is off but when the car is on the drip is steady..maybe a drip per second....I'm dependent on my car and I really don't want to drive it because of the overheating...so would this be a water pump issue?
Since I don't know what year, sub model, or engine I can't tell you where to look for a potential leak.
This forum supports 13 years of the Accord(1990-2002). If you can tell me what year and engine size you have then I could probably pinpoint where to look.
Its a 96 honda accord V6, 2.2L I took a pic because I'm not even sure how to describe the leak....
This is from under the hood...i zoomed in because i saw this little puddle in thereThis pic is from the passenger side this is right behind the battery...
