Default Venting: How can we make the Accord forum more technical & less B.S.??

Ok. To be honest, I'm getting way too tired seeing all the junk up. Many of the newer users I SWEAR have never opened their own hood much less changed a tire. Seeing as how so much junk remains up, I can only imagine how much junk Nick M must delete every-single freakin' day. Is there any answer to this dilemma? Can we impose some kind of simple 5 question mechanical membership / stunna litmus test for new HT members? Sounds impractical but I'm getting tired of the bench racing "who would win...my 1980 accord automatic or a V8 prelude?". Or "what do you think of this (stock-looking brown 4 door in the middle of a freakin field) car?". I understand HT is suppose to encourage learning but I'm like WTF sometimes?!? Flame me if you will...delete this post if you will...I'll be hanging out in Tech for awhile...

I delete threads I dont think are appropriate, I dont always get them immediately, I dont live on my computer, but I think i get the majority of them. I just deleted 4 in the last 5mins. There is only so much I can do. The problem is the people who post these questions in the first place.

as moderator of your forum i do believe that i have done a good job at regulating stunna activity and kept down the nonsense as well...i congratulate myself for this and would like to thank a few people...first of all Nick M for aiding me and being my IDOL!...haha....good job at regulating....as for the accord forum, yes it does get stunnarific sometimes, but that's the best time to turn things around and show the Noo-B's what's what and what is actually acceptable in the world of cars with class and practicality...maybe we should aid these newer users instead of banning and flaming them...

I concur..... what makes some of you people think you know it all? These forums are for people to learn things. Honestly I see more flaming and mean spirited comments on HT than I see anywhere else.... some members have an elitist attitude. Not to mention some of the "tech" info I read here is just plain wrong.... Most is good though. But honestly not really more techie than some other boards. Basically the Accord forum posts seem to go from a legitimate tech question to an off topic back and forth conversation between "senior members" far too quickly... that would be my only complaint as far as thread content.

Just my opinion.... I could be wrong.

Maybe this thread should be renamed the "Nick M ego stroking post"...???

Why don't all of you who are tired of answering the same questions everyday make a sitcky of FAQ's under Nick's rules?

Have to agree with at least that much................... Although most of the people here have been pretty cool even when I open my mouth and show my ignorance but some of you guys seem to live just to climb up people's a$$ every chance you get. Problem is most of the sites I've been to where there is any activity to speak of are about 20 times worse and that isn't restricted to Honda or even import sites. A lot of the domestic sites are the same way. Lighten up guys, I've noticed it's even starting to rub off on me when I'm here. I've made some replies that while maybe appropriate and well deserved I should have just kept to myself.

I am a Sr. member ( and NOT just because of my "advanced" age ) at a domestic site and 90% of those guys will even try to help people out with import questions as many of us own both. And if some Noob asks a really stupid question or says something obviously wrong we try to "politely" set him straight. Trolls are almost nonexistent and flaming is extremely rare. Remember EVERYBODY was a Noob at one time. OK some of these guys are just plain cretons and deserve what they get but don't take it out on all the Noobs. And when we ask a legitimate tech question keep the answers legit. Answer's like, "That doesn't work on Honda's" is like when your parents told you "Because I said so." WHY doesn't "it" work on Honda's ? Give people straight answer's, not a bunch of crap. If I wanted that I'd still be married to my 1st wife. Maybe if we had more serious, knowledgeable answers we wouldn't have so many dumbass questions. I'm not saying you're all like that but there are quite a few. I'll admit it, I'm IGNORANT when it comes to Honda's, the past 30 years I have been absorbed in domestic iron. I came here because I wanted to learn but sometimes I get really frustrated with the BS I see flying around here and I know I have let that frustration creep into some of my posts, for that I apologize but it will probably happen again. I'm old and CRANKY and puttin' up with other people's crap is what has made me that way.

As far as Nick M ? I got no complaints, he's been fair with me so far.

I have been here for a while on this board, I have seen the same questions about 1000 times, there is no way to regulate that type of thing and I don't mind it that much when it doesn't come up in a search. I think what we have to eliminate, which Nick has done fairly well are posts about pics or appearance, or repetitive questions about H22 performance or how to get started modding their Accord. I have been a lot better about noobs then I used to be. If you want to clean the board up then be tactiful in your responses so you get your point accross while still being decent. We will always have noobs, and frankly thats great. We don't need to run them off but we need them to research the site before they just dive into posting.
I say we veterans try not postwhoring with our inside jokes and let Nick do his job by just not responding to the crap posts. We can put forth the right attitude but it has to be done as a consensus.

I agree with this. I try to help the noobs when I can by doing a search for them. I also tell them to use the search feature and even some keywords to search for. I have learned a wealth of information from the time I have spent on H-T and I like to share it with other people who are learning and just starting out. I've seen the same stuff over and over too. We DO need a sticky with FAQ. Then we can refer noobs to that. If I would ever get off of my *** and do my site, I will have an entire section dedicated to Accords (I love them obviously) with reviews on different aftermarket parts so people won't have to ask over and over about what's the best supension setup..etc. My .02

I dont know how many of you are members of other Honda forums but without some fairly strict guidelines and rules they turn to absolute ****.

I agree there are some people in this forum with some elist attitudes. But there are no more here than anywhere else IMO; their attitude doesnt stem from feeling superior but from frustration about content being posted.

RARELY does someone take the time to look around, read the guidelines and see what the culture of the board is like before posting. Its unfortunate. Buts its a reality. I have no problem helping out a n00b get off on the right foot. But when someone comes in with "y0 mai **** is tight, hao much hpz can I git?" I dont want to be bothered. If they cant take the time to post a grammatically correct, intelligent, technical post why should we take the time to respond?

This board encourages more novice and advanced discussion. I think the only reason we seem to "take it too seriously" is because we all refuse to let this board go bad. Our passion for performance, racing and tuning is reflected in this board.

Like Morgan said, it has to be a group effort.

I am trying. Check out my manifold post. I know other people have cameras and make modification like this as well. I think more of us should post tech info as much as possible.
