Can anyone tell me what D series headers are interchangable? I remember reading the answer to this question on here a few months back, but I cannot find it with a search.

 

any d- series header will work with any d-series motor

 

not true, all d series motors have the same exhaust manifold bolt pattern, but some ports are different. example, a 91 USDM SI header will bolt to a JDM ZC motor, but the ports wont match up. you would have to grind the header to get them to match. another thing is, generation to generation the bolt pattern is the same, so you could bolt a 96 SI header to a 90 DX motor but there are some differences like O2 sensor placement and the bends of the pipe, so you might have clearance problems as well. so as far as your question, for a d16a6 in a 4th gen civic, using an 88-91 SI header would be the simplest way to go.

Ok, this is what I imagined to be the case. Do you know which ones have the same port alignment? I am trying to find a used header for my CRX and finding a good deal on one is easier with more options.

I guess I wasnt clear. Do you know what headers (ie: 92-95, 96-00, etc?) will match up port wise to a d16a6 head?

 

when u get headers for a hybrid car it usually goes with the engine... for ex.. my Z6 on the 90 STD uses a 93 Si headers... why?? bc it will have the right bent on the header for it to fit nicely under the engine all the way until it reaches the exhaust....and like they said , some motors have diff size of ports and might not match all that good!

 

88-91, others may work, others may not, but i know for a fact that the 88-91 header will work
