When do you call it?
Just looking for opinions,
Edit: I think I forgot the original question. When does it become a parts car? As long as you have most of the structure intact, you can rebuild anything, but there is a point when it stops being practical.
My dilemma is good condition hatch vs rotted out CRX, CRX CAN be rebuilt, or can be used to get multiple civics on the road that are in better shape overall, but then I won't have super fast race car project, so yeah.
Keep in mind I haven't done anything yet, just contemplating what I should do as to what I want to do.

racing puts more stress on everything
a rusted car being raced in any form... that being straight lines or bends the rust will crack and the car will break
and youll be driving when it breaks and that could lead to a few broken bones

a good point would be for example the car belonged to a movie star
or your father or grandfather got it new waay back in the day
so restoring it would be worth the trouble because of the sentimental value

Structurally, the car is sound. The rear wheel wells are missing, quarters are solid where it all attaches, rockers are there for the most part. Interior is complete but in crappy shape.
The CRX remains, mostly because I want to start fabricating again and I want to do a ground up build. Strip it, r&r, weld seams, custom whatever I feel like, spend way too much time and money on it, etc.
