Help me with this "power shifting"
Basically what powershifting is changing gears without letting off the gas. So instead of letting off the gas and putting in the clutch to shift, you stay on the gas while pushing in the clutch and shifting.
what does it do.
It may be a little harder on your drivetrain, but it makes you that much quicker. If you cant shift quickly then DONT powershift, as you will just be bouncing off of the rev limiter between gears. My RPM's jump up about 200 then fall back down when I powershift. When you are going for max ET every little bit counts. I ran a 14.81 in my car with a slipping clutch when it was bone stock with 148,000 miles. I think that is driving.
swiftly let off the gas a bit and shift into the gear without using the clutch while mashin back on the gas pedal. thats how i was taught, it gave a nice boot...with some pratice, you can do a nice launch. i did it before i traded in my VW Golf for my Lude. i can smell the clutch burnin.

He got it right. Not letting of the gas and using the clutch is called "speed shifting". When you don't use the clutch at all, that's power shifting. Power shifting really screws stuff up, because you're just jamming gears together weither they are lined up or not. Easy way to rip a tooth off of a gear or worse. Speed shifting will put a bit more stress than normal shifting, obviously, but isn't nearly as bad as power shifting. speed shifting does the same as revving the engine some and dumping the clutch, only you're already moving.
