2002 Honda Civic Ex Instrument Cluster Issues
The engine temp gauge rarely works, it pretty much stays on cold no matter how long the engine is on. We have replaced the engine temp sensor and the fan switch since the coolant fan didn't work which works now. Also the fuel gauge stays stuck on empty even when it full. We have already pulled out the cluster and checked all the connections and everything is connected. We replaced all the bulbs in the cluster since it didn't light up at night. Also the cruise control light stays on even though I don't use it. We are trying to figure out if I have to have the cluster repaired by a shop or if this is an electrical issue. The engine temp gauge has gone to warm about seven times in two and a half months but never hot, just in the middle. This mainly happened at night when the engine was cold. It worked a few days during the day but most of the time just stays on cold. The rpm and speedometer have always worked. She has about 232000 miles on her.
Sounds like your temp gauge is working if it has read 'warm'/in the middle a few times in two and a half months.
Has the car overheated in the past?
If so, your thermostat might be stuck open and your engine is having a very hard time getting up to operating temperature.
Your fuel gage might be sensor, fuse or wiring related. I'm not familiar with how the fuel gauge is wired up unfortunately.
If you want to test the mechanical functionality of the cluster you can do a cluster diagnostic test on it to make sure the gages can work if supplied with correct data from sensors.
This test will cause all the needles to sweep their full range of motion.

1. Push and hold the trip/reset button.
2. Turn the lighting switch ON.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON. (don't start)
4. Within 5 seconds, turn the light switch OFF, then ON, then Off again.
5. Within 5 seconds, release the trip/reset button, then push and release 4 times more.
Takes a try or 2 to get it. The odometer has to be in mileage mode, NOT trip mode when you do this. All the needles will sweep back and forth once. To exit, turn off the ignition. Just push the trip button again to see the needles sweep again while in test mode.
