Flat towing for $100 or less [advice needed]
I dumped the tag and insurance on my car the other day, but I'm going to need to move it around eventually. I saw the harbor freight tow bar. Great, that part's easy. What the hell kind of bracket are you guys using to flat tow that's not $400? It would seem to me there would be a really simple bracket you would install in place of the tow hooks. 3 big bolts to the frame. And seeing that you can get aluminum (lol??) tow hooks for $12 shipped, why is nobody making a plate steel bracket kit for $50? It seems there is only one option which is the $400 Roadmaster kit which looks like it ties into your core support.
6000 series aluminum is going to get chewed right to rat **** if you put a j hook through it. You would only be able to soft strap. That, and at 3/16" thickness, you've only got a STATIC safety factor of about 3. Fairly jabroni if you ask me.
