Default Replacing factory '92 Accord LX speakers-Questions.

Just found this board the other day, looks good so far.

I have a '92 Accord LX sedan, has the 6 1/2" speakers front & rear. Noticed the rear speakers 30 watt max. When I got the car pass. rear speaker was dead, pass. front speaker distorted. Still have the factory unit. My questions are:

-What's the power of the factory unit (20-30w)?
-What's the freq. range of the OEM speakers?
-Are the front speakers the same as the back as far as specs?
-Are the foam speaker baffles worth it and needed on a 4 speakers?

I was looking at getting 2 pairs of the Polk ex602a's:
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...07EX602A&o=&a=

Crutchfield has a 1/2 off 2nd pair on ex Polks. The freq. range is 75hz-22khz, 60w, sens. 92dB. Didn't know if these matched the range of the OEM ones. I know there are basser speakers by other brands.
I'm just looking for a general upgrade and don't want to get something sounding worse than what I have and want ones that are compatible w/ the factory unit.

Anyone install them w/ factory stereos on here? Thanks for the audio links,
found the Acura speaker installations pages, good stuff.

Thanks for reading and any advice.

Advice:

Don't power the Polks with factory deck!! Factory Honda decks equals 4RMS per channel. You will blow those Polks in no time if power by factory deck. Replace deck first, speakers last. I do not know about the freq. range on the stock speakers, however, I'm pretty sure they don't have the same range as the Polks. Since you want to keep the factory deck, just go buy some paper-made speakers. JBL has some for around $20.

P.S. 6 1/2 speakers were never designed to play bass...I don't recall seeing one that go below 50hz (I could be wrong). If I sound like I'm rude (tired), sorry.

Wait you mean the factory HU only has 4watts power? I know the Polks are 2-60watts, 4ohms.

OEM speakers are 2-30watts 4ohms.
Just looking for a quality replacement with clean mid/highs.

Well not exactly 4 watts. I meant 4RMS (Root Mean Square). To put it in simple term: continuous power rating. I heard that factory Honda deck are rated around 50 max total watts (approx. 12 watts per channel). So 4 - 5 RMS seems right per channel, because max power usually doubles RMS. So if the factory speakers are 2 - 30 watts, the factory deck is good enough to power them. Max power tells us only the amount of power the amp. is capable of producing for one second at 5000 Hz (easiest freq. to amplify).

The Polks might sound okay with the factory deck, but to unleash its potential, they need power. Most aftermarket decks would have at least 120 total watts...180 total watts are the commons these days. With that, those Polks would provide you with clean mids/highs.

P.S. I know you want to keep the fatory deck, but aftermarket deck is the best way to go. Unless you can find some powered speakers.
