02 Accord Blown Head Gasket
My first post and I'm looking for some help. Just replaced head gasket on my daughters Accord and ran good for a week. Now appears head is leaking again. White smoke, losing some coolant. The fIrst time I had head professionally machined and a valve job. Very reputable machinist. He has been doing nothing but head refurbishment for over 30 years. New gasket and bolts from Evergreen purchased on Amazon. Wondering about the quality now. Followed Honda's stepped torque sequence. New head bolts. Had trouble installing head as dowel pins would not fit into newly machined head easily. I finally fitted dowels to head. I used an older torque wrench with the pointer that follows the arched scale as opposed to the type that clicks. Wondering if this may have been part of the problem. I also had 2 bolts creak on final torque, read somewhere recently I should have backed them out and retorqued. Any truth to this. Getting ready to pull head again and wondering what more to look for. Definitely will check that block joint surface is flat along with checking head again. Replace head bolts again? Step through the torque sequence again then retorque final again? I can't remember the 3 increments, but I do remember the final was around 70 ft lbs. This time I'll do a compression check before I completely reassemble. Any additional thoughts, suggestions, torque info, questions, etc. Thanks Tim
