Honda engine sluggish acceleration
Hey guys just picked up a honda civic 95 with a zc block and z6 sohc head. The car is a 5 speed I'm sure it's a stock 5 speed. Anyways when I'm driving it it's exstreamly slow. First gear gives the car no power at all sometimes have to throw her in second to get going. The engine seems healthy when I hold down the clutch and let the engine rev in neutral it goes all the was to 8,000. When I have it in first and try to get to 5,000 rpm it won't even go past 3,000. Is this a trans problem or did the last owner mess up the timing with the engine. Help please thanks
Sounds like a transmission issue.
1st gear should go easier than 2nd.
Have you checked if the transmission has fluid?
How adept are you, in regards to dropping the manual transmission?
What tests have you done so far besides, out of gear revving and in gear driving?

Second gear is easier then first sometimes first doesn't want to go so I'll throw it in second and ride out second have not check fluid probably should. Only real tests I've done are just racing it out of g ear and refibg it in gear clutch down. First always has a hard time going. I have to hold down the clutch with throttle for a long while. I say I have to wait till the cars at least going 7 miles before I can fully release the clutch. If u don't the car stalls. It stalls super easy. Maybe needs a new clutch but the trans I think is the main problem
1ST Gear sounds as though it is behaving as +3rd gear.... None the less, its weird that it wont rev out, no matter the gear. Even if it were 5th gear, I would think it could eventually clear 3000 rpms.
Possibly a bearing or internal transmission component is trying to seize...
I would like to see how the car performs in the air. Maybe if you could find a safe way to put the front on stands, with wheels off and carefully run it through the gears. (not trying to 8000 rpms through 5th gear lol.) Just see if it will easily go through first and second, with no load and that the mph makes since for each gear.

Yes I would agree you have worn out bushings in the shift linkage or some other problem that it doesn't actually shift into first, and you're trying to take off in third.
Once the car is moving,if it sort of goes but won't get above 3000 rpm, that is pretty typical for the timing belt having skipped. Check the spark timing with a timing light. If you can't get the spark timing to come in properly near the center of the adjustment range, the cam timing is likely wrong. That can be checked by removing the upper timing belt cover and lining up the marks.
