CRX Manual, Remote start
OK we just did this install a week ago on my friends car.
get side cutters soldering gun and shrinkwrap in your hands.
Put your legs up one on each side of the headrest with your head under the drivers side dash.
Grab a light and follow the clutch pedal to the top.
YOull see what looks to be a button thingy with 2 wires coming out of it at the very top.
cut these wrap together solder then shrink wrap them. very hard to do cause so tight.
never ever leave your car in gear.

yes, but how do I do that, I have no idea what i'm looking for. If you could explain it for me or perhaps give me a resource.
A relay can also be used so that when starting the car manually you still need to depress the clutch pedal. The relay can be wired between the two wires of the clutch pedal and should activate when the remote start is utilized.

This is all very dangerous. Clifford Alarms makes a manual tranny remote start alarm system called the Solaris. It is designed for a manual tranny car, I should know, I own one. I worked at a car audio shop for 4 years before getting my networking job and installed these all the time. It is perfectly safe and designed for this use. The first time you leave your car in gear and hit the start button on accident, you'll understand why I recommend this.
This isnt at all dangerous. At the car audio shop which is nation wide reconized 4 out of 5 owners have it setup just like we did. Using a auto start alarm with no clutch depress.
The only reason why you say it is not safe is cause:
I HAVE NOT SEEN ONE CAR AUDIO SHOP THAT WILL INSTALL AN AUTO START ON A MANUAL CAR UNLESS IT IS FOR A MANUAL CAR. THEY WILL ONLY INSTALL THOSE SYSTEMS ON THERE OWN CAR AT THEIR OWN DISCRETION.
I have no problem with it cause i always leave it in neutral. PLus we checked and if you e-brake is on it cant start the car. so even if you left it in gear and used the ebrake it wont start.
How does this clifford one work. If it is done that way done you have to add like tranny switches for it to know when your in gear and not etc.
How hard is it to add tranny switches?
Good thread guys

The thing is I never leave it in gear ever, I leave it in nuetral and us the e-brake. But you see I already have an alarm and don't feel the need to upgrade, I use the clifford intelligaurd 8000. I just want to be able to utilize this feature.
If you have an 8000, just go to a Clifford dealer and ask about the Intellistart 4! The Intellistart is the manual tranny remote start system designed to work with any Clifford G4 system. The Solaris is like a 7000 with the Intellistart added to it. I had a 6000 that I added the Intellistart 4 to.
The Clifford system works as so (Solaris and Intellistart):
While the car is still running (before you turn it off and get out), put it in neutral, set the e-brake, let off all the pedals (clutch and brake). Push the remote start button on the remote. By doing this, the alarm can see that the car is running on it's own, the brake isn't being held, clutch isn't in, and the e-brake is set. If it were still in gear, it would stall if the above conditions were true. At this point, you turn off the car (it will continue to run because the remote start is now making sure it can work with above mentioned values). Sooo, the car is running, you are out, you arm the alarm, and . . . Tada! The car turns off and the alarm is armed. This tells the alarm system that in the state the car was left in, it is safe to start. If the Clifford alarm is triggered while you were away, you can't remote start it. This is a safety precaution for reasons like: Someone broke in and may have knocked the car in gear, etc. It is basically a big safety net. Yes, the whole not starting if set off thing can be a pain. If a loud vehicle is what made the alarm go off, then its still safe to start, but better safe than sorry. This unit also features a pit stop mode. Pit stop allows you to pull up somewhere (gas station or whatever), exit the car (keys in your pocket), leave it running, arm the alarm (stays running in pit stop mode, unlike the remote start method mentioned earlier where the car shuts down when armed), go inside, do your thing, and get back in. All this happens with the car running and alarm system on. Very convenient during cold mornings running in the Quickie Mart for coffee. Hope this clears a few things up.

May I remind you as I work for MECP and I do contracted work for DEI that remote starts are ILLEGAL in many states with a manual transmission.

Manual transmission remote starters are great when installed correctly, they have to be connected to the dome light to know when a door has opened to turn the unit off in case someone has put the car in gear, the emergency brake so that if the brake is released the car will not start, and the clutch bypass relay to bypass the clutch to start the car, also the brake pedal so no one can steal the car because as soon as they put their foot on the brake the car stops, if all of these features are installed correctly the starter will work fine.
I also install the clifford products as well as the Canadian Tire Prostart and the Autostart in manual transmission cars but only with the required safety features, any wuestions on the wiring let me know.
Sean.
Do it right, don't kill someone.

After installing my firends auto remote start alarm we did a bit of testing with me in the car.
I was in the car to control it if something went wrong.
WE left it in gear and put the e-brake on. it woulkdnt start in any gear if the e-brake was on. Just grind the flywheels opps. haha. so as long as your e-brake is on even if by some freek chance your passenger put it in gear or something it still wont start.

What companies make a good reliable remote start system other than clifford? I am looking for one and just don't know what companies have good products.
go to the mobile section and look for hand command....his is a compustar dealer.
compustar has designed a system for remot starts.
as for remote starts on manual trans vehicles....if it not designed for the vehicle or if it is and you dont fully understand and want to do "short cuts"... Don't ******* Do it.....I can say this because I have been pinned to a wall and now walk with a limp and will probably need surgury in a few years. Why??...cause some dumdfuck thought it was cool to have a remote start on his car and they bypassed the clutch and neglected to inform me or my staff that the car had such a feature ( he dropped his car off to have a deck and amp installed..my guy saw the no name system and thought it was just a alarm). And of course you can prob guess the rest. Lets just say the car had long enough run to do damage....and it had hit trees, garagesand other family members cars( prior incidents)...before it hit me. The kids dad thought the kid had the system removed or diabled ( youth...go figure) after the last time...it ran into the garage.
Yes a remote start can be installed on a manual trans car...but it takes a lot of work and thinking to make it what if and idiot proof....and i doubt many in this forum would take the time to to so....just my 0.02 Let my accident be a lesson learned and a stern warning of what can happen...I'm lucky to be here.

well it is about 20 min of work to make a non manual remote start idiot proof. wire in the Ebrake as a switch in the circuit.
It is a logic gate.
Just run through the switch already there for the light on your consloe. Simple cause im ytelling you youd have to aheva mad starter to star a car in gear wtih the e-brake on.

Im going to have to disagree. Just because you wired in the E-brake circuit to a remote start designed for an auto tranny DOESNT make it SAFE!!!
First of all, most AUTOMATIC Tranny Starters dont have a circuit that "looks" for ground signal (most ebrake circuits) in order to start. They usually have a POSITIVE brake input to shutdown after its started, but nothing to look at BEFORE it starts.
Second, even if it did have an e-brake circuit, this would not be that effective because it doesnt take much engagement of the E-brake, to trip the circuit. So if the driver barely engages the brake, the car could still move while in gear.
Third, now EVEN IF the driver engaged the brake firmly, the car still could move. Most engines are stronger than ebrakes. Even if it did try to move the car, and then stall...........the remote start would think the engine stalled and attempt up to 3 more times!!!!!!
Years ago, when companies did not produce remote starts DESIGNED for manual transmissions I could see why you want to attempt this, BUT WHY BOTHER???
Do it right and get a system designed for a manual tranny.
The COMPUSTAR system works pretty much the same way as the CLIFFORD as described above, but with the exception that everything is automatic once you engage the E-brake, and let your foot off the normal brake. You dont have to push any extra buttons or anything before exiting your vehicle. Once you have exited the vehicle (engine running, tranny neutral, key out, ebrake engaged) , once you close your door (and other doors too if you have passengers), the COMPUSTAR system shuts down the engine. Now the vehicle is ready to remotely start, unless the doors get opened either with the alarm on or off.
AudioRoach, thanks for the referrence!!! Sorry to hear what happened to you from that illegally installed remote start!!!

hey Tony...anything I can do to set them on the right track I'm gonna do it especially with something as dangerous as this. Its kinda like the old saying" its all fun and games until someone puts an eye out".....the kid (17 about the avg age here) did not think of the reprecussion...he just wanted to have something that many didnt have...a remote start on a manual trans car. Oh man did his friends rat him out....after shops turned him down..he found someone to do it under the table
then a month before the incident...his dad (who wasnt aware that the car had a r/s...started the car and it back through the garage door and into the family suv) made him take the system of the car,but he had someone wire up a toggle to shut it down while it was at home ( so dad would not be the wiser). Lets just say this kid was royally screwed with a seqouia! Dont do the same idiotic thing okay.
So does this mean I get a referal fee........

As an MECP certified installer with over 12 years experience, I have to agree with the other installers on here and say DON'T DO IT!!!!!!! unless you get a Clifford G4 or Compustar that's designed for manual trans.
In my time as an installer, I have seen 3 of my co-workers atempt to put remote starts in their personal vehicles with manual trans. One of them even came up with a "foolproof" system of magnetic switches on the shifter to ensure the vehicle was in neutral. The other two swore that they never park thier cars in gear. ALL THREE VEHICLES ENDED UP CRASHING INTO WALLS!!! ALL THREE VEHICLES HAD THE E-BRAKE SET AT THE TIME!!! ALL THREE PEOPLE WERE DAMN LUCKY THEIR CARS ONLY HIT A WALL AND NOT A PERSON!!!! Audioroach is damn lucky to be alive!!! A vehicle starting in gear like that has the potential to KILL!!!
Mag switches can fail!! E-brakes can fail!! Don't do it, people's lives are at stake!
Audioroach, sorry to hear about what happened, I hope that punk payed dearly for not telling you that remote start was on his car.
OK, that's my soap box for the day. Tommorow, I'll go off on people who wire in-dash DVD players to play while driving!!!!

How can a car drive by itself? Every experience I've had with starting in gear car is that if you start it in gear it shakes and then stalls out. I've never had one drive away on me.
ok ima tell u one thing i have a remote start on my car(stick). its great! but there is a few probs. yes dont ever leave it in gear. i always put it in N( so nothing ever happens) i do however take precautions. like dont ever stand infront & make sure no 1 is in front of ur car when u start it. do double check car is in N be4 u leave da car. e brake is on. always tell whoever drives ur car to never leave it in gear. i have seen my car start up while its in gear NOT PRETTY! it will just keep on going forward. the reason y it wont just stall out is because ur car thinks ur on da clutch trying to start it. so its kinda like a cycle. it will just keep on leaping forward. people accidently hit remote start all the times u have be real careful.
** when u valet park make it clear to the valet attendent DONT put it in gear***
