Got this nice 99 honda civic ex of this dude on offer up, Car runs good BUT is got an oil leek and its smoking from the exhaust with 270k miles Yikes! i want this to work even when people are quick to tell me to sell it now , ( how can i love civics!!). I live in queen creek AZ, currently saving to engine swap (d16y8 so hard to find right now!) .. Anybody got any tips for a beginner fighting the nay sayr, Any alternatives or shops near phoenix, tempe ect? Any help clears my mind thank you
My personal advice if you really want to keep this car on the road. Unless your loaded you will HAVE TO start doing this work on your own. With the amount of hickups you will have with a 20+ year old car if you went to a shop every time it had a problem it will quickly take a turn for the pricey. Though doing your own labor and carefully sourcing parts it would cost you next to nothing. Example, you could have found your oil leek for the cost of a few cans of brakleen and an afternoon, instead your paying a shop 5x s much. I hate to see another civic go to the yard and am ecstatic that you have decided to rescue this one. I just want you to know there will need to be alot of TLC dispensed to keep its prestige.
