EVAP Control System Leakage
Honda 2001 CRV. A gas station attendant failed to tighten my gas cap after fueling my tank, causing the check engine light to come on a trip soon after. I tightened the gas cap, drove the 3 trips required to clear the warning light, but the light didn't clear. I bought a new gas cap from AutoZone, and after driving 3 trips per the owner's manual, the light is still on. I'm getting diagnostic code P1456, "Evaporative Emissions (EVAP) Control System Leakage (Fuel Tank System)". I'm in Mexico, and can't purchase a gas cap from a Honda dealer. Advice please.
Did you clear the code after reading it? That should've turned the light off at least for a bit, at least until the vehicle ran the EVAP readiness process again to re-find the failure. If you didn't clear the code after reading it, do that. If you don't have access to the scanner that was used, disconnect your battery for a few minutes. If you do that and the code is still there, maybe you've got a different leak causing the issue. P1456 tends to pop up when a "gross" (or large) leak occurs, so it should be relatively easy to find...like a hose torn in half, or otherwise completely disconnected.
