What to look for on a possible cracked block or cylinder head?
Hello,
My 03 Civic has overheated several times. I have 150k on it. Only on the highway after about an hour of driving. Had the water pump, rad, fans, and thermostat checked and replaced. I went in and took the car apart pulled out the head gasket and I see no cracks. Also none of the cylinder heads are steam cleaned. I suspect maybe a cracked cylinder head, cracked cylinder wall, or a cracked block. I have no milky oil it white tail pipe smoke. Not sure how to tell if the cylinder head is cracked, cylinder wall is cracked or block is cracked. When the car overheats I pull over and pop the hood and see coolant spraying out the reservoir. Here are pictures of the head gasket, the cylinder head and the block. Gasket front Gasket back Block

The swirl marks on that head lead me to believe that it isn't flat anymore. Did someone take a palm sander to it or something? You need to check the head and top of block for flatness, and possible have them decked to fix any warpage.

Thanks
I took it to a machinist who took a flat edge yo the head and a flashlight and he said it checked out, no problems with it. If there were a crack wouldn't one of the cylinders be steam cleaned? Because of the leaking coolant? All the cylinders look like they have plenty of carbon build up. When this car overheats it shoots coolant out to the reservoir. So something is causing a lot of pressure and heating up the coolant.
