Hard-Starting: Honda Accord 2.3 liter???
2001 Honda Accord w/ 2.3lt engine-150K miles. Hard starting lately. Turn it over for one to two seconds and doesn't start. The the second try to turn it over, it starts right away, every time. Perplexing?? Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Probably your fuel pump is getting weak. That is very typical. The fuel pump might actually be a little gummed up from poor quality fuel or if it sat a long time without being run. and some varnish/lacquer built up inside the pump. The fuel pump is actually immersed in the gas tank by the way. If it was me, I would run a tank of Shell premium gas through it, and see if the extra cleaners in that gas made the cleaned out the fuel pump and made it work better. Or, buy some Gumout multi-system fuel cleaner and add it to the tank of gas and see if that helped. If it did, I would buy gas somewhere different from where you've been getting it. Overall, if neither of those worked, and it starts after the second try all the time, and it runs okay otherwise, I would just live with it. It doesn't hurt anything and a new fuel pump costs many hundreds of dollars and it wouldn't be worth it to me.
