Reinstalling Transmission Issues
Hello, I am having an extremely difficult time installing the transmission back into my car. It's a 2001 Civic but I figured I'd ask here since I'm sure the transmission install is the same and there are a lot more active members in this subforum.
So I have everything lined up but it seems that there is something blocking the transmission from going in the last 1/2 inch. Are dowel pins supposed to cause a lot of difficulty? I've removed the clutch and pressure plate and have lined them up with the alignment key twice. No difference.
Is the transmission supposed to slip right in with very little difficulty? I'm about to start screwing in the bolts and hope for the best. This car is driving me insane.

Have you tried gently rocking the crankshaft via the pulley on the other side of the engine?
The guys here mention that that solved what sounded like a similar problem to yours (it's near the end somewhere):
Slightly turning the engine appears to allow the input shaft splines to be mated properly.

I typically put a small amount of anti-seize on the locating dowels just to make sure they're not holding me up (in case of any corrosion). Then its just a matter of the shaft lining up and sliding into position. Is the engine in the bay, or is it outside the engine bay?
Even if you use a alignment tool you have to visually check the clutch disk. I always use a alignment tool but its an universal tool and will never give you a 100% alignment.
Check if the gearbox is in neutral before installing

This is exactly what the issue was. Although we used the alignment tool, the clutch was a hair off. Thanks so much for your help!
