I want to do a h22 build boosted but not sure if i should just keep stock with 7-8 psi or should i do some up grading befor i boost? I want it to be as reliable as possible but i want to have some fun in it too. What should i do?

 

Fully builded engine with sleeves

 

Completely stock engine will do ~350whp(more or less depending on mileage and luck) with quality components and tune relatively reliably. More than enough for a street car. NPR Type-S pistons(cast, but made of a stronger alloy than the stock Honda ones, compatible with FRM sleeves) + forged rods for ~450whp. Anything more than that and it's a full blown build with sleeves and forged everything.

Not necessary to change valves. Valve springs, however, are never a bad idea when boosting.

 

Stock engine and boost is hardly ever good idea

 

15 years ago with nothing but VAFC hacks and FMUs I would have agreed. Today with the tuning software and turbo/fuel system hardware available it's not unheard of to get 400whp+ out of a stock H22 and have it last for years. The key is quality components and a professional tune.

 

Just for a low boost build like I did with 212k Miles and been boosted for a year at 7 psi no problems. I'd say better spark plugs, and if you can get hondata s300 and a wideband. That should do you good... If you want to be on the safe side bigger injectors, arp head stead's, fuel pump, thicker head gasket and a dyno tune would get you some good hp without a full out motor build. Theirs a guy stock internals made some crazy 6-700 hp. Our engine are pretty strong. Just if you Go above 8 psi make sure it's dyno tuned from a reputable place.

 

^ the boost level is not nearly as important as the power being made. boost wont kill the engine, the power it makes will. 8 psi on a T25 will barely even push the engine whereas 8psi on a gt40 and youre likely spraying metal down the road on a stock block. 8psi doesnt really mean anything at all unless you know what turbo that 8psi is coming from. the ring lands on the piston are the weak point in honda engines with cast pistons, which is damn near all of them besides maybe the f20c and a couple others im probably unware of. 8psi or not, if youre boosted you need a real tune, and if youre on a stock engine you need to be weary once you get above 300whp.
