So my 1991 CRX DX (d15b2) has been having some really weird stuff going on. Around nine months ago it left me stranded at a stop light because my coil mysteriously blew up. I took off the cap and there was a thin layer of grey dust inside the cap, and the coil had ashes inside the hole. The car would just crank, so I bought a new distributor, coil, and cap, and it started right up. The motor has recently started hesitating really bad at around 2,000 rmps, almost like its not getting any gas. But once you get on the highway it runs fine. When I first got the car, i took it to a bunch of shops and had the alternator checked, they all said it was charging but the voltage regulator was bad. I changed the alternator three times since, and they still say its the voltage regulator. So I took the cap off again last night, and the inside was dusted grey again, and the coil had ashes inside. I've noticed the motor hesitation has slowly gotten worse over those nine months when I changed it. I have heard that you will start blowing fuses if the voltage regulator goes bad, but mine are all good. Could it possibly be the spark plug wires? The previous owner changed them about two years ago. Here are some pictures of the cap and the coil.
