I've read forums and what not on what could be wrong.
But anyway, I have an FA5 DBP that I just got about a month ago and I have noticed that when I am sitting at a light or parked with the A/C on, it does not blow cold air; however, when I get to about 2k RPM it starts to blow cold air. I have it on MAX A/C and recirculating air button is on.
I am thinking it could just need a recharge on the system. Any other opinions?

BTW, the compressor does come on and the fan does as well.

 

I would check to see how much refrigerant is in the car. These cars have a large dash area and not much r134 in the system and on hot days don't blow very cold at idle.

 

How do I check the refrigerant levels?

 

It's likely you have a leak. You can't really check the level unless you recover the refrigerant. I would pick up a can of refrigerant with leak detector and a uv glasses with light kit and add about half a can and drive it around. Check for leaks. Recover refrigerant, fix leaks. Evacuate for 30 minutes. Recharge to spec.

 

Why do you think I have a leak? The A/C gets cold when my RPM's are up. If it never got cold then I could see that it could be a leak, but this problem has been occurring for weeks and I haven't had time to get it looked at professionally.

 

When the RPM's are up the compressor is working harder plus there is more air moving over the condenser making the system operate easier. When it's at idle and the compressor is barely tuning over and you are low on r134a then it won't cool as well.

 

Check to make sure your ac condenser fan is running. This is the passenger side fan right behind the radiator. If the fan does not run the condenser will not cool at idle but will when you drive the car because air will flow thru it.

 

If I am parked and press the gas without moving, the air gets cold.

 

Just noticed that when the A/C fan is blowing super fast and moreso slow-medium speed it is cold. This could be because my car was in the shade, but I'm not entirely sure.
