HELP: integra won't start after motor swap
Hey guys new to using forums and would really appreciate some help. I have a
-1998 integra (CDM and obd2a), and just dropped a
-1997 integra gs-r b18c1 motor (USDM also obd2a) into it.
As you may know, the USDM obd2a plugs are not the same as the obd2a plugs from canadian integras, as the usdm obd2a plugs are like our obd1 plugs. However, I bought the appropriate jumper harness for the ECU from yonaka and it was all plug and play from there.
I completed my swap recently but to my luck there is no start. I checked my timing and it was good with both cam gears pointing upwards simultaneously, and the ridge near the bottom lined up with the marking on the crank pulley. My fuel pump is priming just fine, the fuel pressure regulator is getting fuel, and there is fuel coming out if I remove the banjo bolt from the filter.
I am getting strong crank, but the sparks are weak. I have replaced the spark plugs with new iridium's, purchased new ngk blue gs-r spark plug wires, and have even bought a new distributor. I put a bit of fuel on the end of one of my spark plugs and held it near a metal bolt while a friend of mine cranked the engine to see how strong the spark was, but only received weak white spark and a bit of smoke off the plug. I am, however, receiving a check engine light and do believe that this could be the root of the problem.
Since my chassis is CDM obd2a it is equipped with the obd2 port, and although the USDM motor is technically obd2 I don't believe this port can function with it due to the usdm obd2a chassis's not having this port. So what do you guys think? Could this be a ground or fuse/relay issue? My friend believes the new distributor may be defective or maybe it could be a crankshaft sensor issue.

USDM OBD2A Integras have an OBD2 port (passenger side footwell) so your OBD2 port should be active. Plug in a code reader and see what you get.

Look up injector pulse, not resistance. As dumb as it sounds my distributor would go in 2 ways and took me a month to get it to work. It was very dumb for some reason, but I had no injector pulse and I redid my battery ground, timing, flipped the dizzy and it fired right up. Double check your grounds. Especially your thermostat ground. That one is very important.
So it started! Turns out it was the thermostat ground and a few pins of the conversion harness not staying in properly. Thanks for all the help guys much appreciated,
