where can I find a new crx si motor. not too expensive?
my si motor has 260,000 miles and is very sluggish. I am looking for a newer one . so please let me know if you know if you know of a place to get one for under $300 or so.
Mine has 170k and still seems quick.... stilll waiting on my swap though. you probably dont want one with that many miles however.
Rebuild the one you got.
You can then add stronger internals, up the c/r, P&P it, and have a fairly smoking motor, for a d16.
That's what I got. It was rebuilt at 210,000... Has 10,000 on the rebuild and goes strong as hell. Handled 7lbs of boost supercharged.
You can rebuild it for about the same cost as swapping in the same motor if you do the work yourself, and could have a better motor in the end.
Just my $0.02.

How much $$$ to rebuild typically? Are there different stages of rebuilding engines? I might be doing mine soon, hearing these opinions and knowing that I love my D16A6.

reabuild will be cheaper
more reliable than a used one!

Are there different stages of rebuilding engines?
option 1 - $$$$
you can overbore the motor, replace pistons, rings, all bearings, all seals, gaskets, shave the head, deck the block, hot tank the block, replace oil pump, water pump, all belts, rebuild alternator, etc.
option 2 - $$$
you replace things only if they look bad/questionable:
- do a leakdown and compression test. if the numbers are below spec, replace piston rings
- plastigauge the bottom end to see if you need new rod and main bearings
- replace only gasket, seals, belts that look bad
- etc.
the price of a rebuild all depends on how much you want to replace as well as how things look. if all looks good, replace the minimum amount...

Well I just got finshed building my brother's "mini-me", and if you have a motor with high milage, then more than likely you will need to rebuild the whole motor. Here's a few things to think about.
($300 is not a realistic number to "find a new motor"...as you put it)
The head: (regardless of which one you use...stock or vtec)
I paid $160 for a complete rework of the whole head (valve seats, seals, guides, etc) Will save you many headaches down the road.
The Block:
Have the cylinder walls checked for clearances. (you may have to have it bored over, or just honed) I got luck, my brother's were still in spec. I paid $30 to hone out the block. (Boring to any size can cost at a min of $120+)
Pistons:
If the pistons are in good shape, then all you need is a new set of rings. I paid $30.
New main/rod bearings:
At 190,000mi, even honda bearings are out of limits. To replace them you must know which bearing sizes you need. Even honda block is different. You have to go by the bearing codes stamped on the block and crank.
New bearings from honda (YES! use only honda bearings!!!) are about $8-9 a piece...so 5 sets of main bearings will cost around $90, and the rod bearings will cost another $70. (the $$$ is adding up)
Seals and Gaskets:
A complete gasket/seal kit will be needed...this cost me around $100...and was not OEM honda. Go in just try to piece together a gasket/seal kit OMG!!!
Water pumps & Timing Belts:
You'll should replace old water pumps $50 OEM, and timing belts $50 OEM. (I'm sure you can get these cheaper if you go to Pep Boys)
That's about it...I think. Did I leave something out?
Anyways. I just wanted to give ya an idea of what it takes to truely rebuild a D16A6. You can always getto it, but do expect it to run good, or even last. So for about $600 you could pull this off, or just buy a used motor...and hope it last.

just find a low mileage d16y7 motor and sell you si motor. i got 2000 motor with 30000 mile from a salvage yard. i paid like $400 for it though. the y7 only makes like 1hp less than si. i am sure you will make that up using si intkae though
Dude by the way your sounding I would highly reccomend not rebuilding it by yourself. I like the enthusiasm though.
