First post here, so be easy. I drive a 2002 Honda civic EX (Manual Transmission). A few nights ago I was driving home and I was pulling up off of a highway onto a ramp, and my car turns off and the battery light comes on. My first assumption is the alternator because I could start the car right afterwards (Battery works), but the car did not continue to run when I started to drive (Alternator Failure). I made it home by jump starting the car, but leaving the cables attached for 10 minutes, and this allowed me to drive home (5 minute drive). However, I did some checks on the car the day after, and I checked the battery voltage when the car was off and it read 12.9 V, then again when the car was running and it read 14.3 V. Therefore, the increase in voltage should signify that the alternator is functional. I got in today and drove around the block with absolutely no problem. Does anyone have ideas for what could be wrong with the car? I don't want to go through the trouble of buying and replacing an alternator if It's not necessary.

 

Maybe one of the many relays going bad, they are a bugger to track down.

 

if you have a second car you can use pull the alt and get it test at autozone, same with the battery. i seen alt wires fray pretty bad too, i would check that too

I drive a 2005 Civic LX and I'm experiencing similar issues. While driving I started noticing my radio would turn off, then come back on, gauges would go down, lights got dim. The electronics would usually come come back on but it died a few days ago driving home. My CEL came on with code P0325 but I don't know if it's related. Have you made any progress with your car?
