Radio loses power, shuts off at low rpms
Weird issue with my 92 EG (VX): My stereo (aftermarket Kenwood, been working for years) slowly fades out until it turns itself off. It comes back on at high rpms, sometimes associated with hitting a bump. I put a spare regulator on the alternator because I happened to have one. Still the same though. No battery dash light is coming on.
Now I'm thinking it's a loose ground somewhere. Can anybody point me in the right direction to find the main ground points?
Thank you!
Sean

Your alternator could just not be putting out enough juice. Car off, all load off, use a voltmeter to test voltage across the battery terminals. It should be around 12v. Start the car, leave all load off, test voltage across the terminals again. It should be around 14v. Turn on all load (high beams, stereo, air conditioning) and it should still be near 14. Alternatively, just drive to your local Advance or Autozone and ask them to test the battery and alternator for you.
Thanks, NotAR. Alternator / Regulator are testing out fine. I pulled the head unit and it's something going on in there. Re-taped some wires, everything seems to be working now but we'll see. Possibly a bad ground somewhere?
When I get in/out of the car and touch the body I constantly get shocks. Is this symptomatic of bad grounding or just the high dry climate of New Mexico?

You definitely have a bad ground somewhere in the car. I 'm betting you have an amp as well.
I haven't soldered them yet, but that's next if it fails again. And on your advice, I will now focus on cleaning up all the grounds.
You think I have an audio amp somewhere in addition to the head unit? I haven't seen one anywhere...
Thanks,
Sean
