wanting most speed possible in a solid, reliable, daily driver, what engine is best for the 1991 honda crx dx? currently has a 1.5 with automatic. no guts at all.
after a few weeks of researching, and knowing what my goal is for this car, i'm thinking i wont be totally pleased with anything but a b18c5 type R with a few minor mods, and a lsd 5 speed.....and she'll be my Type - R....CRX !! has a ring to it to me.
Does anyone have any input on what honda engine type and set up might be faster in a straight line, and as reliable as a near stock Type - R ? thank you
nice crx man that mugen kit is bad ***
as for your go fast motor in a straight line
the k24 would be your best bit, its way faster that any b18
and they dont cost as mush if you know where to look
since they come in the accord, the element, the crv , and some acura modals the k24 motor mated to a rsx or civic si trans would be your best bit
for go fast set up
and yea once finished its reliable and can be driven everyday like any other car
its a bit pricey to get all the parts collected but in my eyes you only buy it once
Thank you Marcos, for the compliment on the car. I love to turn cars into how "I" would want them. lol. I really appreciate your input and your time. I will look into the k24 swap for sure. I've done a little reading already and it sounds like a great motor. This will be my first honda swap so i'm totally new to this. Any advice on where to purchase vital swap components, wiring harnesses, axles, shift linkages etc. would be greatly appreciated. I have found mount kits already. A ten year old forum i read said a "K" swap into a crx would require a lot of welding/fabricating etc. and is NOT for newbies. I'm hoping time has improved the parts choices and decreased the difficulty doing a "K" swap? Thanks again
yes sir this would be hard 10 or 12 years ago but now you can get all bolt in and plug in kits
but they are a little on the pricy side
for the wiring theres a company that makes your harnesses just plug and play
its called rywire.com and im guessing that you found the hasport mounts for the motor and trans to drop in to your engine bay
your going to need the shifter cables for your shifter inside the car since these new motors run with cables instead of shift leakages like what you have now
also i would strongly recommend getting a alternator relocation kit for clearance
there will be a problem with hood clearance
but a hood scoop will fix that
or you could go a different route and make a custom hood
the type r swap would be a good realistic 1st swap to do on your crx
fits under the hood and you can keep ac
the k24 is a good swap but not for the feint of heart and is still a 10k swap
thats my brothers wagon and i can attest to the cost and difficulty
