Distributor oil leak
96 Accord v6 2.7L with original Hitachi distributor. I noticed a pretty severe oil leak in and around the distributor when I had to replace the ignition coil this weekend. Does anyone know if these can be resealed on this model? I've seen threads about resealing the inner and outer seals on distributors, but they all seemed to be for the 4 cyl models. I'm pretty sure I'd need to do both seals on this one. Anyone know if it's possible on this model, and any thoughts/advice on parts or procedure for DIY? Or am I looking at a new distributor? If so, OEM doesn't seem to be sold anymore. Any advice on aftermarket brands? Thanks!
I have watched a YouTube video by Bushougoma (not kidding) on how to replace the inner seal on these Honda distributors. You may want to check it out. On the later generation (98-02) you can't replace it so you are "lucky". One thing to look for, if the oil dripped onto any coolant hoses, you should consider replacing them because the hose will swell and eventually burst, probably at the worst possible time, and you will instantly be stranded because you can't drive it that way or it will overheat and blow the engine.
yep! watched that one too. but that was a 4 cyl he was working on. So you think because I'm pre-'98 I should be able to follow the same procedure? Even though I have a 6 cyl?
