purchase a long block or complete swap?
Im looking into buying a b18b for my car. osaka motors has b18b long blocks for 680 and HMO has a complete swap for 2200. my question is, which will be better to get? long block or complete swap? you guys think if i got the long block and purchased everything else separate, i could be under 2200? i was looking into a b16 or gsr tranny to put on the b18b. im not sure if osaka would do this since they do not have the LS manual trannies. i dont know, let me know guys! thanks
Are you planning on building an LSVTEC or do you just wanna go with a straight LS??? If you are going with the LSVTEC route then I would just buy the long block then part off everything that you don't want and get what you need... Doing that you would not want to run the LS tranny.. If you just want a complete swap then either go with the straight LS from them or try to get it for less.... To tell you the truth I think it maybe easier to buy that motor complete... Atleast then you don't have to run around looking for a tranny etc.
Are you gonna build it or just boost it with stock internals?? I haven't worked a lot with straight LS turbo's... On my friends GSR turbos they run high boost and hybrid LS trannies. One is a fully built GSR in a EK putting 505whp down at 8750.. the other just has pistons and rods with stock sleeves... It has 350 whp. We tried B16 trannies but the gears are too short and there isn't enough load to get full boost until 4th gear. GSR is better but we originally tried a straight LS tranny and they were too long.. I dunno exactly what your setup is gonna be so post back a few more details. Latez
im not going to go with a crazy setup because this will be my first turbo project. i plan on just running the greddy kit for the LS engine on a stock LS engine for a while. when money allows ill buy an intercooler and BOV and turn up the boost a little. again, nothing insane. maybe 9 or 10 psi tops. but eventually down the road i will build up the block to handle more boost as i become more familiar with turbo setups and tuning. with the built block i will prolly replace the turbo with one from a drag kit and max that out.
can you explain the hybrid LS tranny?
can you explain the hybrid LS tranny?
There hybrid LS trannies have custom gears that are a little shorter than LS but can keep the car in boost and have a good load. It's taller than a GSR but for a relatively built motor it will work fine.... Like i said i don't have a lot of experience with straight LS turbos.... For you the LS tranny would probably work fine.. There is no need for anything crazy like a hybrid.... and I don't know for sure but I think a GSR may be too short for a straight LS.
